Our church has been a vital part of the Grapevine community since its founding in 1954. The church was originally named Memorial Baptist Church. In 1998, we moved to our current 47 acre campus at 3000 William D Tate Ave. In 2008, our church voted to change our name to "Church at the Cross" because so many residents know us by the 70-foot white cross at the front of our property - it has become a landmark in the Grapevine area!
Church History
1954 – On April 20, our church was organized with 56 charter members meeting in the Grapevine High School auditorium. The church was originally named Memorial Baptist Church. One year later the growing congregation dedicated a new building on Walnut Street near downtown Grapevine. Church members helped with construction, purchased carpet and installed air conditioners.
1973 – Our potential for growth was limited by the development of DFW airport, so we began looking for a new location. Six acres of land were purchased on Timberline Drive, close to Grapevine High School. The first worship service took place in this building on May 13, 1979. A second worship service was soon added to accommodate growth, and two education buildings were constructed.
1991 – Even as a new third building was being dedicated, church leaders recognized the need for a larger campus and facility. Our church enthusiastically purchased 47 acres on William D Tate Ave. and began construction on the present Worship Center and Education Center (now known as KidzTown).
1998 – With completion of the Worship Center and the Education building, the church moved to its current 47 acre campus.
2004 – While celebrating its 50th year of ministry, the church voted to adopt a new campus master plan and a strategy for reaching out into the community. “Church at the Cross” was added to the church’s name (Memorial Baptist Church) to help identify our location to the community.
2005 – The Education Building underwent an extensive remodel to become Kidztown, a state-of-the-art children’s learning center that includes an indoor playground, diner and theater.
2006 – The church opened the Hangar, a new 5,000 square foot student ministry center.
2008 – Our church voted to change our name to Church at the Cross and move forward with construction on a new atrium, education center and sanctuary remodel.
